Submitting a Project for Consideration

WriteContent assumes you have read WriteContent's Terms of Use and Service Agreement.

The process for submitting your project for consideration is simple.

Customer defines his or her request by email or phone.  Provide WriteContent with a thorough synopsis of your project as well as the kind of work you need.  WriteContent specializes in nonfiction book-length projects but will schedule writing projects of all kinds, large or small (see Why WriteContent? ).  For services other than hands-on editing or writing see consulting services.

WriteContent Reviews Project .  If we feel this is a project we can take on, we will ask for more details.  For example, if you want a book manuscript edited, we may ask for a table of contents, sample chapter(s), and estimated number of pages.
WriteContent Quote . If WriteContent decides it can provide the appropriate services, we will send you an estimate of hours to complete the project with notes explaining the kind of work needed.  For nonfiction content editing WriteContent typically charges a minimum of $40 an hour at a pace of 2-5 pages per hour.  Other writing projects are negotiable.  See typical
market rates for editorial services below.

Terms of the Project

Every editing or writing job is unique and has its particular challenges, so the process for working out the agreed upon terms takes collaboration.  The following is an outline of how this collaboration works,  tailored for a book-length manuscript.

Customer Accepts Offer. You and WriteContent negotiate the scope of work, payment terms, etc., using the freelance editorial agreement (contract). Once the agreement is signed, the customer will electronically upload the project, or send a diskette by mail. No hard copies are necessary.

Work CollaborationIt is crucial the customer be available for queries throughout this period, either through email or phone . During this stage WriteContent will make changes directly to the electronic version and use Microsoft's comment feature to capture queries, explanations, notes, etc.  (For content editing all minor changes are not specifically noted, or tracked.) Early on in the project WriteContent will batch some of the pages to you so you will see the kinds of edits being made.
Completed Project.  WriteContent will return the project to the you with comments, along with the final invoice. You will also receive editor's notes detailing major changes, concerns, as well as suggestions for development ideas, and next steps. The editor's notes, as well as the "yellow" comments are also for the copyeditor's use, so he or she can easily pick up where the content editor or writer leaves off. (For clarification in preparing a manuscript, see the
editing process as well as the four types of editors under editor's role, especially what a writecontent editor does.) You can query WriteContent on any issues or changes that aren't clear. Reasonable minor rewrites and tweaking are available without charge.
Invoices and Payment Method. Depending on the terms of the agreement and length of the project, you will receive up to three invoices. You will pay approximately 1/3 up front, 1/3 mid-project, and 1/3 for the final invoice.  Payment is by money order or check. (Pay Pal to come.)

The fees for different types of work and the estimated pace of work is detailed at Editorial Freelance Association's (EFA) fee and scheduling guidelines.  From this one page you can roughly estimate your costs.  For a better understanding of contracts and the working relationship between clients and freelancers see the EFA's Publication, Code of Fair Practice.   It covers editorial functions, setting fees and billing, contracts, and conflict resolution.

Customer Delight

Preparing a manuscript for bound book is a long, collaborative journey.  For a content editor, one of the most gratifying rewards is the successful one-on-one relationship created with an author during this journey.  From raw manuscript to bound book, a content editor is immersed in the details of the subject, as well as in the creation of the final product.  By the end of the journey he or she usually has forged an excellent partnership with the author.  For the content editor, customer delight means pleasing both the author and the reader.

Contact WriteContent today and explain the nature of your project. If we can't directly help you, we'll try to find someone who can.  Or you can review the talent on the freelance pages for other freelance services.
